ABOUT THE PROJECT
As a result of manufacture reforming by 70th of the XX-th century industrial spaces, factories and fabrics of Europe, have started to lose theirs importance and have stopped to be used directly. But factory spaces have given area for imagination of artists. It is said that it was Andy Warhol who has suggested this idea to creative community; he was the first who find for his studio a workshop of one old New York factory. Art people of a postindustrial age have seen a special aesthetics in these industrial interiors, with all their rough brick and concrete walls, sticking out pipes, gates, wires, and the main thing – the new practical application. These loft-spaces have perfectly approached for galleries, showrooms, theatrical and concert stages etc.
The fashion tendency from Europe should reach Russia, all the more in the past our industrial country had many spaces, ready to turn from industrial in the creative. It is interesting that these spaces, thanks to the scales, became attractive with their multifunctionality and a possibility to connect easily all in one place a gallery, a concert platform and a cinema hall, - everything, that the imagination of art managers can provide. So many cultural centers uniting various creative audiences began to appear.
The project FACTORIES OF IMAGINATION: NEW TERRITORIES of CULTURE connects the modern art centers from different countries of Europe and Russia on the basis of their general principle of the organization: they are transformed from the former industrial zones, are engaged in promotion of a new culture, and also in development of projects across the various art disciplines.
First of all, the project promotes an exchange of experience in the area of transformation of spaces and the organisation of their activity, including questions of architecture and financing questions. Therewith, the project opens the general creative ideas and current tendencies in a modern art process, bring the most actual and shows it in public. Therefore under this project it will take places conferences, meetings, and actually concerts, performances, exhibitions, film demonstrations etc.
First year of the project has been open by the conference "The European and Russian experience of transformation of industrial spaces into the new territories of culture. The creative programs of contemporary art centers" and than has been continued with a video-dancing performance of French choreographer and video-artist Philippe Jamet "Dancing portraits".
During 2009 on a territory of PROEKT_FABRIKA in Olivier hall and in Aktovy Zal will take places four art week-ends. Each of them is dedicated to one of the European centers-partners of this project.
